Uncompressed 1080p/60 capture with simultaneous playback

GVS integrated the GVS9000 2XU with Toshiba’s IK-HR1S 3CCD high-definition camera. The system combined single-channel video, Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet to capture uncompressed 1080p at 60 frames per second while providing playback in compressed and uncompressed formats.

Williams-Sonoma catalog production used GVS Metropolis servers running Solaris with Nomadic storage. The GVS environment interoperated within a facility otherwise centered on IBM RS/6000 systems, providing the production workflow required for catalog creation.

02Linotype drum-scanner workflow

Removable hot-swap storage between scanner and Macintosh

GVS developed an early removable hot-swap drive workflow that moved high-resolution scans from Linotype drum scanners to desktop Macintosh systems for direct editing. Initial 500 MB media cost approximately $5,000—about $10 per megabyte—and supported the required scanner and Macintosh formats.
